There is often a misconception on the construction of rib fabrics. Customers oftentimes request for 2×1 rib or 1×2 rib, when in fact 2×2 rib is actually the same, just different in terminology.

From time to time, customers refer to the face side of the fabric which appears to ‘knit two drop one’ and calls it 2×1 or 1×2 rib. For us, we usually refer to both sides of the fabric (knit two at face and two at back), thus it we call it 2×2 rib. Below is a rough sketch for easier understanding.
